In 2012 I started experimenting with inks, calligraphy, and collage in a big leather book of square handmade paper. It was a years-long project that never really ended.

The weird book filled up in sections over the next few years. There’s a section of strange writing, a section of inkblots, a section of black and red, a section of red and turquoise. You get the idea.

The photos are mostly instagram printouts. I used a nosebleed to make an inkblot at one point. It looked cool at first but dried into a gross copper brown color. I did not press those pages onto my scanner.

The writing all uses a basic grid cipher. It was done with calligraphy nibs and brushes.

I found the weird book under a hat recently. It still has dozens of empty and half empty pages left, and many more that I haven’t scanned. These are just a few of my favorite spreads.
